Makes a large deciduous shrub with large heart shaped leaves. The nuts are larger than hazelnuts and ripen September to October. Introduced from the Balkans in 1759.

Corylus avellana Cosford

 

Excellent crops of medium to large, thin shelled nuts of a good sweet flavour. An abundant bearer, best cross pollinated by another fruiting hazel.

This uncommon selection has superb rich purple foliage and in spring is festooned with pink catkins. The purple skinned fruits contain a delicious nut.
