Snowy mespilus

A wonderfully cheering site in early spring when the masses of starry white flowers cover the branches just as the new foliage with its copper tones appear.

Leaves opening coppery-red, turning to soft green in summer and then to shades of red, orange and yellow in autumn. The plants are smothered with small white flowers in spring followed by black berries.

A superb evergreen shrub of easy and fast growing habit, ideal for windy or exposed positions. Lovely two-toned foliage effect in spring when striking new silvery leaves contrast with the deep green of the old; perfumed white flowers in late summer.

Large panicles of white flowers in the autumn make this plant shine out from the others, not to mention the handsome evergreen glossy foliage. One of my favourites.

This evergreen shrub is a strong grower, making a perfect hedge. If left alone, it will form a beautiful shrub with large dark green leaves and bright crimson flowers and will grow up to 2 metres.

This is a lovely cultivar of these spring flowering shrubs with large rich yellow flowers being borne on the bare stems during March and April. Makes a splash of colour into any planting scheme.

Lavender angustifolia 'Folgate' has aromatic purple flowers on long stems during the summer. A good, strong growing form suited for hedging.

Grappenhall is an excellent strong growing lavender when a 2 to 3 foot hedge is desired. Its bloom is lighter in colour than other lavenders buts size more than makes up for this.

One of the angustifolias or English lavenders, Munstead is a fragrant robust lavender that makes a great hedge. It can also be used for knot gardens. It flowers profusely in the spring, after which a good pruning will provide an attractive grey hedge with highly aromatic leaves.

Oregon Grape

A small shrub, which is equally happy in sun or shade. Its pinnate shiny leaves often take on a red hue in autumn. A lovely surprise in early spring when the dense racemes of yellow flowers open followed by black berries.

A choice, vigorous rose bearing pale creamy white flowers followed by small red hips. Good as ground covering or in the natural hedgerow and woodland.

Dog Rose

Wild rose with delicate pink or white lightly scented flowers. They make wonderful displays in the hedgerows during June and July, followed in autumn by bright red egg shaped fruits.

The Eglantine Rose. Spiny arching rose with single pink flowers followed by red hips in Autumn. Makes an excellent natural security hedge.

Persistently popular, this easy to grow rose can be seen poking its red-pink flowers through native hedgerows all summer. Glorious large red hips follow the flowers. A superb impenetrable hedge.

Dense, spreading, thorny rose with single creamy flowers borne freely in mid summer followed by purplish black hips. Very good for dry conditions.
