Common Buckthorn

A large native shrub or small tree with spiny branches, which are attractive in autumn when laden with masses of shining black fruits. The yellowish-green flowers borne in May attract Brimstone butterflies.

Rhamnus frangula - native hedge - hedging

A native large shrub or small tree, easy to grow in most situations, autumn colouring of yellow foliage and red fruits changing to black, the wood was once used for gunpowder charcoal.
