Why we grow with Air pots.
We have been growing our larger sized plants and trees in Air-pots for over 5 years. The Air-pot is a groundbreaking new technology that helps produce wonderful quality plants with superior roots. This increases the ease of establishment considerably when planting larger specimens. The Air-Pot is a recyclable and reusable plastic container that actively enhances the quality of the root systems of plants.
This new approach to containerising stock plants produces a non-spiraling root system that is impossible to develop in any other available container.
Made of recycled HDPE plastic, the Air-Pot forms a traditional circular shaped pot with a perforated sidewall, which is textured like an egg carton. This means there are no flat surfaces to deflect roots and start the spiraling process, like they would in a normal pot, which can often make them ‘pot bound’.
Eliminate root circling
The inward pointing cones direct the root towards the hole in the outward pointing cones where the air makes the tip of the roots dehydrate. (Air-pruning)
The plant then sends out smaller feeding roots which leads to the build up of a dense and fibrous radial root system, producing wonderful quality plants that establish quickly and successfully when planted.
Ensure superior performance
With continuous air pruning, new root is always being generated, therefore the root system is more efficient in its use of all the available water and nutrient and it is significantly less vulnerable to extremes of cold and heat which so badly affect the mass of root at the outer edge of a traditional container.
The porosity of the Air-Pot also creates better conditions for bacterial activity increasing the amount of nutrients available to the plant. Plant vigor and health is therefore guaranteed.
Superior Plants for Planting
Larger semi-mature plants can be difficult to establish, particularly when they are ‘pot bound’ leading to poor growth. However our large specimen plants grown in Air-pots prevent this problem. The air pruning means a more fibrous root system is produced, and the roots continue outwards from the plant in a natural way.
When they are planted the young feeding roots produced by the air pruning grow quickly and firmly for good plant establishment in a quicker time. Making the plant easier to look after and growing with more vigour than a traditional pot grown plant.
